HELLO THERE

It's March 21st at nearly 11:00pm here in South Jersey. It's officially Spring but good ol' Toby, the snowstorm, didn't know that. I had no work to go into today so what better way to spend my warm and cozy day in than to start a blog. I thought this would be a good place for me to gather my thoughts about the books I read. I guess in some way this is a bit of a journal for me but I'd like to think I can also be creative and share this journey with you. Do you ever read a book and love it or hate it but then forget the details about what you loved or hated? No? Just me?

For this first post let me give you a rundown of my Goodreads Reading Challenge for 2018. I have not done this challenge before so I've started with 30 books. As of today I have 9 books that I have read to date. I will post about each of those for my upcoming posts but for now here is my 9 of 30 books read in 2018.

  1. Perfect Phrases for Documenting Employee Performance Problems by Anne Bruce
  2. Reapers Gale (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #7) by Steven Erikson (I will review this book once I complete the series and then am doing the reread)
  3. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
  4. Permission to Screw Up by Kristen Hadeed
  5. Soul of a Highlander (Daughters of the Glen, #3) by Melissa Mayhue
  6. The Witch's Daughter (#1)  by Paula Brackston
  7. Red Seas Under Red Skies (Gentleman Bastard, #2) by Scott Lynch
  8. Exit West by Mohsin Hamid
  9. The Republic of Thieves (Gentleman Bastard, #3) by Scott Lynch

The books I am currently reading are:

  1. The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
  2. High Performance Team Coaching by Jacqueline Peters
  3. The Last Wish (The Witcher, #1)

Here's to Chapter 1. I plan to blog here not only to get words out of my brain but also to write about the books I am reading, have read, plan to read.. and so on. I've titled the Blog "Julia's Paperback" for 2 reasons. One, I LOVE a paperback over a hardback book. Two, a paperback is often the cheaper version of publication.. kind of the underdog. That is what I am my friends. I am the underdog! I am new to this and I am not perfect nor will I ever be. Just pick me up and give me a sniff and a read me while you cozy up with your favorite cup of tea. Laugh at my stupid mistakes or get angry at what I think of your favorite book! Best of all leave me a comment and lets chat. That's what it's all about!

xx, Julia

THE LAST WISH

The Last Wish (The Witcher)  by Andrzej Sapkowski Genre: Fantasy My rating: ★★★★☆ Synopsis Geralt of Rivia is a Witcher. A cunning sorcerer. A merciless assassin. And a cold-blooded killer. His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world. But not everything monstrous-looking is evil, and not everything fair is good... and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth. I can't believe I waited so long to read this book. It has been 3 years since the video game, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, was released and I loved it so much. If you had not played the game I highly recommend it. The story line is great and the from what I remember the graphics were great. With that being said lets get into what I thought about the book. The book starts off just the same as the opening scene in Wild Hunt. I was immediately submerged into the world that I knew well from the video game. The book wastes no time, in comparison to the video game, a
